ABOUT

“The Missing Piece?” follows a young girl as she navigates the loss of her beloved grandma, embarking on a journey of grief and understanding. As she struggles with the reality that death is final and a natural part of life, her grandma sends comforting signs from the spirit realm, reassuring her that everything will be okay. Written in simple yet vivid language suited for children ages 4–7 (Pre-K to 2nd grade), the story gently introduces the concept that death is unavoidable and that dead things do not come back to life. The illustrations will feature a warm, textured paper style, enhancing the book’s emotional depth and visual appeal. As a 12-page picture book, it provides a thoughtful and accessible way to help young readers process loss with reassurance and understanding.

This children’s book project aims to gently but logically explore the topic of death, offering young children a compassionate and age-appropriate story that helps them understand loss, process their emotions, and find comfort in whoever is reading to them.

This children’s book project aspires to fill a crucial gap in literature by providing a compassionate yet factual exploration of death for young readers. By addressing key biological concepts — such as the irreversibility and universality of death — the book will help children grasp the realities of loss in an age-appropriate manner. Through the narrative journey of a child processing grief, the story will provoke meaningful discussions within families and educational settings, offering comfort and understanding to children and adults alike.
