ABOUT OLLIE

Ollie the Octopus: This was a Picture Book inspired by my silly nephews. The oldest one named Levi, who is in the book, loves construction vehicles. The younger one named Rory loves octopus, so i decided to combine those to things to create a unique story. This story follows an octopus named Ollie who goes too far in the current after his mom told him not to, getting lost and somehow being transported to a construction site. He has an adventure getting back and his mom was waiting for him to teach him a lesson.

I started off by writing the book, it changed a lot throughout the process but I thought writing would be best to get out of the way first. I then sketched out a basic outline for each page and vectorized them in illustrator. After that I put the layers in photoshop and started to add textures in, my inspiration for this was Eric Carle and the various paint textures he uses. I expanded on his technique slightly and added more natural textures such as sand, canvas, and some glass textures. I tweaked these layers with some shadows and layer styles to really bring the paper look to life. I then moved on to InDesign to add the text, I really wanted it to flow like water hence the wavy effect the copy has. Finally I brought some pages into Adobe After Effects to actually bring them to life!

BAND-AIDS

BAND-AIDS

For this project of Band-Aids I decided to do an extension to my project "Ollie The Octopus." This project was not catered to children but when I think about Band Aids I think of my childhood. So I thought this was the perfect opportunity to expand the characters of my story. I wanted to create a playful and eye catching Band Aid box, usually they are fun and playful, which mine are, but I decided to make the characters sad. As when you are getting Band Aids its usually not the best time. I also thought the sadness of the characters is very cute would be funny to a kid! I wanted to create 3 sibling boxes possibly to persuade the buyer to collect all three, and to give them the option to choose their favorite character.
